Omar is a Maine Coon from Melbourne, Australia, who shot to international fame in 2018 when photos of his sheer size went viral. Measured at around 120 centimetres, the giant ginger cat was celebrated as potentially the world's longest domestic cat, dwarfing ordinary house cats.

His owner has said that Omar started out as an ordinary-sized kitten before growing to his remarkable dimensions, a reminder of just how large the gentle-giant Maine Coon breed can become. Despite his imposing length and weight, Omar is described as a friendly, easy-going companion.

Omar's viral moment shone a spotlight on the Maine Coon, one of the largest domestic cat breeds, and delighted people worldwide who could hardly believe a pet cat could grow so long. He remains a much-loved example of the breed's famously supersized proportions.

Fun fact: Omar was reported to stretch to roughly 120 centimetres in length, putting the big ginger Maine Coon in contention for the title of world's longest cat.
