Orangey

Orangey was a marmalade tabby tomcat who became the most successful working cat in Hollywood history. Trained by Frank Inn — the famed animal trainer also responsible for Benji and Arnold Ziffel — Orangey appeared in dozens of films and television programmes between 1951 and 1962. He is best remembered as "Cat" in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), the unnamed companion to Holly Golightly played by Audrey Hepburn, and as the eponymous Rhubarb in the 1951 film of the same name about a cat who inherits a baseball team. For these performances he won the Patsy Award — the animal equivalent of an Oscar — twice, becoming the only cat ever to win the award more than once. Reports from his co-stars suggest that Orangey was, by feline standards, a difficult performer: Frank Inn called him "the world's meanest cat" and other actors complained about being scratched on set. Co-star George Peppard reportedly clashed with him on Breakfast at Tiffany's. Despite his temperament, Orangey worked steadily for over a decade and shaped the template for the trained feline screen actor. He died in 1968 of old age.
