- Makes
- 30 tiny bites
🧺 Ingredients
- 100g chicken livers, rinsed
- 1 tablespoon plain cooked, mashed pumpkin (not pie filling)
- 1 egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons oat flour
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 175C (350F) and line a small tray with baking parchment.
- Blitz or finely mash the raw chicken livers into a smooth paste.
- Mix in the pumpkin, egg yolk and oat flour until you have a thick, pipeable batter.
- Spread thinly into a small lined tin, or pipe pea-sized dots onto the tray.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until firm, then cool completely and cut or break into tiny training-sized pieces.
- Keep in the fridge for up to four days, or freeze in small batches for longer storage.
Nutrition: Chicken liver is loaded with taurine, iron and B vitamins, while a spoon of pumpkin adds gentle soluble fibre to support smooth digestion.
📝 Notes
Liver is very high in vitamin A, so these are a treat and a training reward, not a meal — a few tiny pieces a day is plenty, and too much liver over time can cause vitamin A toxicity. Keep the pieces genuinely small so a full training session stays within a treat allowance.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
