Prawn & Pea Purée

A luxurious protein-rich purée that cats find irresistible. Prawns are a lean, high-protein treat — and peas add folate and gentle fibre.

🧺 Ingredients

  • 80g cooked peeled prawns (no seasoning)
  • 30g frozen peas (cooked)
  • 1 tsp salmon oil
  • 2 tbsp water or unsalted fish stock

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. If using raw prawns, boil in plain unsalted water for 2–3 minutes until pink throughout.
  2. Cook frozen peas in boiling water for 3 minutes — drain well.
  3. Place prawns, peas, and water/stock in a blender or use a stick blender.
  4. Blitz until smooth — the consistency should be a thick, lickable purée.
  5. Stir in salmon oil.
  6. Serve in a shallow dish at room temperature.
Nutrition: Prawns are exceptionally high in protein and low in fat and calories, making them ideal for weight management. They provide selenium, iodine, and astaxanthin — a potent antioxidant that gives prawns their pink colour.

📝 Notes

Prawns must be fully cooked and completely plain — no garlic butter, seasoning, or cocktail sauce. Shell and devein before cooking. This purée is particularly good for senior cats or cats recovering from dental surgery who struggle with solid food. Keeps refrigerated for 2 days.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
