- 40 min
- Makes
- About 8 small portions
🧺 Ingredients
- 150 g minced rabbit (boneless, lean)
- 1 tbsp cooked peas, mashed
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 tbsp plain water or unsalted bone broth
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (160°C fan) and lightly oil a small loaf tin or ramekin.
- Mix the minced rabbit, mashed peas and beaten egg together with the water until evenly combined.
- Press the mixture into the tin and smooth the top so it cooks evenly.
- Bake for about 25–30 minutes until firmly set and cooked right through with no pink remaining.
- Cool completely, then slice into small cubes and serve a couple as a treat; refrigerate the rest for up to three days.
Nutrition: Rabbit is a lean, easily digested novel protein that is ideal for cats prone to food sensitivities, while a small amount of mashed pea adds gentle fibre and a little plant-based texture to bind the loaf without overloading it with carbohydrate.
📝 Notes
Use plain rabbit with no salt, onion or garlic, and make sure it is fully cooked through. Serve as an occasional treat or topper rather than a complete meal, and introduce a new protein like rabbit gradually in case of sensitivity.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
