Tuna & Pumpkin Fibre Cakes
Little baked cakes of tuna and pumpkin — a tasty, fibre-rich treat that supports smooth digestion and healthy hairball management.
- Difficulty
- Easy
- Time
- 30 min
- Makes
- 10–12 small cakes
🧺 Ingredients
- 1 small tin of tuna in spring water, well drained
- 3 tablespoons plain tinned pumpkin purée (100% pumpkin, not pie filling)
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons oat flour (or porridge oats blitzed fine)
👩🍳 Method
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with baking paper.
- Drain the tuna thoroughly and flake it into a bowl, then mix in the pumpkin purée and egg until well combined.
- Stir in the oat flour a little at a time until you have a soft, mouldable mixture that holds together.
- Roll into small marble-sized balls and flatten slightly into little cakes on the tray, spacing them apart.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until firm and lightly golden. Cool completely before offering one small cake as a treat.
Nutrition: Pumpkin is a gentle, well-tolerated source of soluble fibre that helps firm up loose stools, ease mild constipation and move swallowed hair through the gut — a natural aid against hairballs. Paired with lean, protein-rich tuna, these cakes turn digestive support into something cats genuinely want to eat.
📝 Notes
These are treats, not a meal replacement — offer one or two a day alongside a complete diet. Use pure pumpkin purée with no added sugar, spice or 'pie' seasoning. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days, or freeze for up to a month.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
