🧺 Ingredients

  • 150 g cooked lean turkey, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp peeled, cored apple, very finely grated
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp oat flour (or plain rolled oats blitzed fine)

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray.
  2. Mix the finely chopped turkey with the grated apple.
  3. Beat in the egg, then stir in the oat flour to form a stiff, mouldable mixture.
  4. Roll pea-sized balls and flatten them slightly onto the tray, spacing them apart.
  5. Bake for 15–18 minutes until firm and lightly golden, then cool completely before serving.
  6. Offer one or two as a treat and store the rest.
Nutrition: Lean turkey delivers plenty of protein for a low-fat reward, while a trace of grated apple adds a natural sweetness and a little fibre without the sugar load of commercial treats.

📝 Notes

Apple flesh is safe for cats in tiny amounts, but never include the core or seeds, which contain harmful compounds. These are treats, so keep them under 10% of daily calories. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days or freeze for up to a month.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
