🧺 Ingredients
- 150 g cooked turkey breast, finely minced or shredded
- 2 tablespoons plain low-fat cottage cheese
- 1 egg, to bind
- 1 tablespoon oat flour or ground rolled oats
- A little plain water if the mixture is stiff
👩🍳 Method
- Heat the oven to a moderate temperature and line a baking tray with parchment.
- Mash the cottage cheese and stir it through the minced turkey with the egg and oat flour until you have a soft, sticky dough, adding a splash of water if needed.
- Roll into small marble-sized balls and flatten each slightly onto the tray.
- Bake for about fifteen to twenty minutes until firm and lightly golden.
- Cool completely before serving, then offer just one or two as an occasional treat.
Nutrition: Built around lean turkey for animal protein, with cottage cheese adding a little extra protein and calcium — soft-baked and low in fat, which suits older cats or those recovering their appetite.
📝 Notes
Many adult cats are lactose intolerant, so cottage cheese belongs here only in a small amount and only for cats you already know tolerate a little dairy; if it causes loose stools, drop it and use a spoon of plain water instead. Keep these in the fridge for up to three days or freeze in single portions. Treats like these should make up no more than a tenth of daily calories, alongside a complete, balanced main diet.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
