Interlocking Foam-Tile Play Cube
Snap together foam floor tiles into a lightweight cat cave and lookout
Interlocking foam floor tiles — the kind sold for playrooms and gyms — snap together into a light, sturdy cube with a doorway and a cut-out window. It becomes a warm, quiet hideaway your cat can climb into, peer out of and ambush from, and it comes apart flat for storage.

🧺 You will need
- Six interlocking EVA foam floor tiles
- A craft knife
- A ruler and pen
- Optional: a soft blanket for the floor of the cube
🔧 How to make it
- Lay out four tiles as the walls and plan one tile for the roof and one for the floor.
- On one wall tile, draw and cut a doorway large enough for your cat to walk through comfortably.
- On a second wall tile, cut a smaller window so your cat can look out and swat at passing toys.
- Snap the four walls together at their interlocking edges to form a box, then fit the floor tile and press the roof tile on top.
- Drop a soft blanket inside and set the cube in a quiet corner for your cat to explore.
💡 Tips
- Place the window facing the room so your cat can watch the household from cover.
- If the roof pops off when your cat jumps on it, leave it open-topped as a walled lookout instead.
Safety: Use plain foam tiles and supervise cats that chew, as bitten-off pieces of foam can cause a dangerous blockage if swallowed. Take the cube apart and remove it if your cat starts gnawing the edges rather than resting inside.
