Rolled-Sock Door-Handle Bounce Toy
Hang a stuffed sock on elastic from a handle for hands-free bouncing play
A sock stuffed with filling and a pinch of catnip, tied to a length of hat elastic and looped over a door handle, becomes a springy target your cat can bat, box and leap at on its own — no human required to hold the wand.

🧺 You will need
- One clean odd sock
- A little polyester filling or a second scrunched-up sock
- A pinch of dried catnip (optional)
- A length of round hat elastic or soft cord, about 40–60 cm
🔧 How to make it
- Stuff the toe of the sock firmly with filling and a pinch of catnip.
- Tie the open end of the sock tightly closed around one end of the elastic.
- Loop and knot the other end of the elastic over a door handle so the sock hangs at about your cat’s standing-reach height.
- Give it a flick to show your cat how it bounces, then let them play solo.
- Adjust the height so your cat has to stretch up but can still reach comfortably.
💡 Tips
- Hang it in a doorway your cat passes often so it invites a swipe throughout the day.
- If your cat loses interest, re-scent the sock with fresh catnip or move it to a new handle.
Safety: Use this only under supervision and take it down when you are out — elastic and cord are a strangulation and swallowing hazard if a cat becomes entangled or chews through them. Check the knots and elastic regularly and replace them the moment they fray.
📝 Notes
The stretch of the elastic makes the sock rebound unpredictably, mimicking escaping prey and rewarding pounces with movement, which keeps solo play far more engaging than a static toy on the floor.
