Homemade cat food
Beef & Liver Patties
Rich, iron-dense patties combining beef and liver. Liver is a nutritional powerhouse for cats — but must be limited to avoid vitamin A toxicity.

- Makes
- 10 patties
🧺 Ingredients
- 100g minced beef
- 50g beef liver (finely chopped)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tbsp oat flour
👩🍳 Method
- Finely chop the liver into very small pieces — the smaller the better for texture.
- Combine minced beef, liver, egg yolk, and oat flour in a bowl.
- Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Form into small, flat patties about 3cm wide and 1cm thick.
- Pan-fry over low-medium heat for 3–4 minutes each side until cooked through.
- Drain on kitchen paper to remove excess fat.
- Cool completely before serving.
Nutrition: Liver is one of the most nutrient-dense foods available — rich in iron, zinc, B vitamins, and vitamin A. Beef provides haem iron and complete protein. Use as treats rather than a daily meal.
📝 Notes
Important: liver should make up no more than 5% of a cat's total diet. Excessive liver causes vitamin A toxicity. These patties, fed as occasional treats (not every day), are safe. Keeps refrigerated for 4 days or freeze for 2 months.
