🧺 Ingredients
- 120g minced turkey
- 40g carrot (finely grated)
- 2 tbsp low-sodium chicken broth or water
- 1 tsp coconut oil
👩🍳 Method
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat — no oil needed initially.
- Add minced turkey and cook, breaking up, until no pink remains (about 6 minutes).
- Add grated carrot and splash of broth or water.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 3–4 minutes until carrot softens.
- Stir in coconut oil and remove from heat.
- Cool to room temperature before serving.
Nutrition: Turkey is a complete protein with a low fat content, making it excellent for overweight cats. Carrot provides beta-carotene and adds bulk without calories. Coconut oil supplies medium-chain triglycerides which some studies suggest support gut health.
📝 Notes
If using stock or broth, verify it contains no onion, garlic, or added salt — most commercial stocks are unsuitable. Make your own by simmering chicken bones in plain water. Keeps refrigerated for 2 days.
⚕️ Before you cook for your cat
- Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
- Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
- Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
