🧺 Ingredients

  • 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 1 small carrot, peeled and finely diced
  • Unsalted water or plain chicken broth (no onion, garlic or salt)

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Place the chicken breast and diced carrot in a pan and cover with unsalted water or cat-safe broth.
  2. Simmer gently for about 15 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the carrot is very soft.
  3. Lift out the chicken, let it cool, then shred it finely with two forks.
  4. Return the shredded chicken to the pan and mash the carrot into the broth.
  5. Cool to room temperature and serve as a soupy meal or topper, keeping the extra hydration the broth provides.
  6. Refrigerate leftovers for up to three days.
Nutrition: Lean chicken supplies easily digestible protein, while the broth adds valuable moisture — useful for cats that drink too little or need tempting to eat during recovery. Soft carrot contributes gentle fibre and beta-carotene.

📝 Notes

Never use shop-bought stock cubes or human broths, which are loaded with salt and often contain onion and garlic — both toxic to cats. This stew is a comfort food and hydration booster, not a complete diet, so serve it alongside your cat's usual balanced food.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
