Chicken Liver Training Crumbs

Baked chicken-liver bites crumbled small enough to reward tricks and vet handling — an intensely meaty treat cats will work hard for.

Difficulty

Time

Makes
About 40 tiny crumbs

🧺 Ingredients

  • 80 g fresh chicken livers, rinsed and patted dry
  • 1 tbsp plain cooked pumpkin or sweet potato, to bind
  • 1 tbsp oat flour or plain wholemeal flour

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Heat the oven to 170°C (fan 150°C) and line a small tray.
  2. Blitz or finely chop the raw livers to a smooth paste, then mix in the pumpkin and flour.
  3. Spread the mixture about 5 mm thick on the tray.
  4. Bake for 18–22 minutes until firm and cooked right through — liver must never be served raw or pink.
  5. Cool fully, then break or cut into pea-sized crumbs.
  6. Keep in the fridge and use within three days, or freeze in small batches.
Nutrition: Chicken liver is exceptionally palatable and packed with highly available iron, protein and vitamin A, which makes these crumbs a powerful, low-calorie-per-piece reward for clicker training, nail trims and stress-free carrier practice.

📝 Notes

Liver is very rich in vitamin A, so treat these as an occasional training reward, not a daily food — a few crumbs a day is plenty. Too much liver over time can cause vitamin A toxicity, so keep portions genuinely small.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
