Duck & Pear Sensitive-Tummy Mince

A gently cooked novel-protein mince of duck with a spoonful of soft pear, aimed at cats with delicate digestion who may do better away from the usual chicken and fish.

Time

Makes
2–3 small portions

🧺 Ingredients

  • 150 g lean duck meat, skin and bone removed, finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon ripe pear, peeled, cored and mashed
  • A splash of plain water or unsalted, onion-free broth
  • No salt, oil, seasoning or skin

👩‍🍳 Method

  1. Trim all skin and fat from the duck and mince or chop it very finely.
  2. Cook it thoroughly in a dry non-stick pan over a low heat, stirring, until no pink remains, adding a splash of water to keep it moist.
  3. Stir in the mashed pear for the last minute, just to warm it through.
  4. Let it cool fully to lukewarm and break up any large pieces.
  5. Serve a small portion and refrigerate the rest for up to two days, or freeze in single servings.
Nutrition: Duck is a rich, palatable animal protein that many cats have never eaten, making it a helpful novel-protein choice, while a little soft pear adds moisture and a touch of gentle fibre in a form that is easy on a delicate gut.

📝 Notes

This is a supplementary treat, not a complete, balanced diet — do not feed it as a full replacement meal without your vet's guidance, especially for a cat with ongoing tummy trouble. Duck is useful as a 'novel' protein for cats being trialled off common ingredients, but any diet change for a sensitive stomach should be introduced slowly and ideally discussed with your vet. Keep the pear to a small amount, as fruit is only ever an occasional extra for an obligate carnivore, and always remove pips and core.

⚕️ Before you cook for your cat

  • Homemade food must be balanced. Cats need taurine, and deficiency causes heart and eye disease.
  • Treat recipes are supplements to a complete diet, not a replacement for it.
  • Check any new ingredient against the toxic-foods list, and ask your vet before switching diets.
