🧺 Ingredients
- 1 tin sardines in spring water (drained, no salt or oil)
- 1 tsp fresh flat-leaf parsley (very finely chopped)
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp oat flour
👩🍳 Method
- Drain the sardines well and mash them thoroughly, checking for any large bones.
- Stir in the finely chopped parsley, egg and oat flour to make a stiff paste.
- Roll into small pea-sized balls and flatten onto a lined baking tray.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for about 12 minutes until golden and firm.
- Cool completely before serving to your cat.
Nutrition: Sardines are packed with omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) for skin, coat and joints, while a touch of parsley adds chlorophyll that can help mask fishy breath.
📝 Notes
Use only a pinch of curly or flat-leaf parsley (Petroselinum) — it is fine in tiny amounts and often used to freshen breath, but larger quantities are not advised, and spring parsley (a different plant) should be avoided entirely. Sardines are rich and best given occasionally. Store in the fridge for up to 3 days; treats should stay under 10% of daily calories.
