📜 History & origin

The Oriental Shorthair was developed in the UK in the 1950s and 1960s by crossing Siamese cats with British Shorthairs, Russian Blues, and Abyssinians to introduce new colours and patterns while maintaining the Siamese body type. The result is a cat with all the personality of the Siamese but in virtually every colour known to cat genetics.

Minimal grooming — their fine coat needs just a weekly wipe. They need intensive social interaction and should not be left alone. They are best kept in pairs. Their vocal nature means they will loudly express any unhappiness. Interactive toys, puzzle feeders, and daily play sessions are essential.
