📜 History & origin
Singapuras were 'discovered' in Singapore by American couple Hal and Tommy Meadow in the 1970s, though subsequent investigation raised questions about whether the cats were truly native to Singapore or developed in the US. Regardless of origin, the breed was recognised by the CFA in 1988 and has been embraced as a tourism symbol by Singapore, which named them the 'kucinta' (love cat).
🧼 Care & grooming
Minimal grooming — their fine coat needs only occasional brushing. Their tiny size means they feel the cold more than larger breeds. Despite being small, they are extremely energetic and need interactive play daily. Singapuras hate being ignored and will climb to shoulder height to be part of whatever you're doing.
🩺 Health notes
Uterine Inertia (difficulty giving birth) is common, and many Singapura queens require C-sections. Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency has been identified in the breed. Their small gene pool is a concern; responsible breeders focus on maintaining genetic diversity.
